Teachable Moment 101

In all of my years of learnings and experiences, two truths have stood the test of time:

  1. The sum total of all that we know is equal to all that we've learned.

  2. With zero exceptions, all that we currently know is not all that there is to know.

The good news is, when and if you're ready to learn, a teacher carrying a teachable moment will appear. Our lives begin like books filled with empty pages, and each new day carries with it the opportunity to fill a page with at least one lesson we didn’t know the day before.

A teachable moment can come from anywhere or anyone: it can appear in the form of spoken or written words, shared knowledge or self-discovery, a person of integrity or deceit, a young person or an older one, a simple truth or a lie, a mistake of your own or someone else's, an old thought or a new one, a good decision or a bad one, or your success or failure.

How can you make sure you’re always open to the teachers that surround you? Adopt the mindset of a beginner, stay ready to learn and look forward to the possibility of a teachable moment appearing each day.

Congratulations, you're now ready to build on this teachable moment and experience more of the same.
